Hotel Nikko Narita received "4 Gyoi Kou Zakura" on March 15, 2024 (Friday) in the international certification "Sakura Quality An ESG Practice" for domestic accommodation facilities that practice SDGs. It is awarded to facilities that are rated as "Regenerative (facilities that improve the local environment to the extent that more customers come to the facility)"which is the second category from the top of the five-level evaluation.
The hotel also received "Sakura Quality A Clean Practice" certification as a facility that has been inspected for safety standards of behavior.
Hotel Nikko Narita will continue to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs toward the realization of a sustainable society.

What is Sakura Quality An ESG Practice?

Sakura Quality An ESG Practice is a tourism quality certification system for accommodation facilities in Japan, operated by the Tourism Quality Certification Office of Nippon Hotel Appraisal Co. , which has been certified by the American GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council), an international standard organization for sustainable tourism.
The 17 goals of the SDGs are organized into 172 criteria to provide travelers around the world with information on high-quality tourism services in Japan and to ensure that they can enjoy a safe and comfortable trip. The certification is awarded to facilities that are safe, secure, and honest and are recognized as An ESG practice that implements the internationally required SDGs initiatives.

What is Sakura Quality A Clean Practice Certification System?

Sakura Quality A Clean Practice certification is given to facilities that are judged to have appropriate hygiene measures, use appropriate disinfectants, have appropriate and effective disinfection procedures, ensure staff safety, and conduct on-site inspections of storage, disposal, and record keeping for disinfection of chemicals.

◆Compliance with the Law for Promotion of Recycling of Plastic Resources (as of December 31, 2023)

We are gradually introducing amenities using environmentally friendly materials in some of our guest rooms.
Items covered: hairbrushes, combs, razors, shower caps, toothbrushes

Target for FY2023: 10% reduction compared to the weight of plastic provided in FY2022.
*Weight in FY2022: 14.20g → 12.78g per person (down 1.42g from the previous year)

Results during FY2023: 44.3% reduction compared to the weight of plastic provided in FY2022.
*Weight in FY2023: 7.90 g per person

◆Effective Use of Waste Cooking Oil

Waste cooking oil from restaurants is converted into biodiesel fuel through a specialized company and reused as fuel for work vehicles at Narita Airport.

◆Introduction to paper straws

We are working to reduce plastic waste by replacing straws with ones made mainly from renewable organic resources (biomass).

◆Promotion of LED lighting

We have installed LED lighting in up to 70% of the building and will continue to promote the use of LED lighting to significantly reduce power consumption and contribute to the prevention of global warming by reducing CO2 emissions.

◆Water-saving efforts

Showerheads in all guest rooms are designed to conserve water, contributing to the effective use of water resources.

◆Fairness and Equality Initiatives

As part of our efforts to eliminate inequality, we promote the employment of people with disabilities and non-Japanese and work to create an environment where everyone can play an active role regardless of nationality, age, or gender.

◆Disaster prevention training

We have established a self-defense firefighting headquarters, and in cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, we conduct regular disaster prevention and fire drills based on earthquake and fire scenarios.

◆Staff health and satisfaction surveys

We conduct annual health checkups for all staff members, employee satisfaction surveys, and stress checks to maintain the mental and physical health of our staff members.

SDGs stands for Sustainable Development Goals, international goals aiming for a sustainable and better world by 2030, which were unanimously adopted by member countries at the UN Summit in September 2015.
